Shimoda Yamatokan

Really place with a private ones in your room! The way it is setup the rooms will have a sea view with a decent amount of privacy. The price is very fair and theirs a beach that’s walking distance. You can also book the onsen on-site that is larger and is overlooking the ocean. Beautiful setting all to have to yourself! Highly recommend if you are staying in the Shimoda area!

My stay here is one of the best vacation I've ever had. The room we stayed in had a great view of the ocean, so my surfer husband could easily check the waves from our room. The hotel is old, but the place is clean and comfortable. When you come here you can enjoy a traditional Japanese room. Plus there is a direct exit to the ocean from th rooms. The best thing I enjoyed about our stay is the food. I love seafood, so each meal was heaven! The staff were also very friendly and ready to answer our questions. One thing to improve maybe is a recommendation for a place to eat lunch, because they don't serve it and we didn't see many restaurants around (this could be because of the pandemic). The place itself is nice, but some part of the hotel are in complete disrepair, and even quite dirty, the pool area and the access to the beach especially. The food is really nice, the staff very friendly, the bath area is nice and clean, except maybe the bath mirrors that could use a good scrubbing... all in all a good experience, but at 15,000¥ per night per person on discount and the fact that the private bath and drinks are not included, it is definitely overpriced... A note on the side: Tattoos are not allowed in the public baths.

This is by far my favorite hotel in Japan. I love it so much that i’m writing this review while still in the hotel. 😊 They are very kid friendly. The amenities are great. We stayed in two kinds of rooms. First night was at the 4th floor and our 2nd and 3rd nights were in the second floor with the onsen. Both rooms had beach view. So relaxing! 4th floor was closer to the 5th floor onsen and the dining area where we ate our breakfast and dinner - kaiseki style. I ordered our meals during booking. When we arrived, our room was already prepared for our baby. There was trash can for diapers and staff to sterilize and warm milk. You can also ask for more amenities free of charge. They have a playroom for kids in the second floor next to the store, vending machines and lobby. My daughter played in there everyday. Oh did i mention, they have direct access to the beach? Yes!!! we had so much fun staying in this place. They also have shuttle to and from the bus station if you’re not driving. I highly recommend this place. And we will come back for sure.
